BPW International has worked closely with the United Nations since its inception in San Francisco in 1945 and is one of the pioneering women’s organizations to hold Category One Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and its Agencies. The organization has permanent representatives at the United Nations who have played a major role in four world conferences on women.

Today the Federation has affiliates in over 125 countries with Category One Consultative status with all UN organizations.

Being one of the major International women’s organizations, BPW International promotes its objectives without bias of creed or colour. BPW International is concerned about the problems faced by women in developing countries in areas such as management, marketing and exporting. With that in mind BPW International has established an ad hoc committee on business, trade and marketing together with the Netherlands Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI).

Keep us from pettiness: let us be large in thought, in word and deed.

Let us be done with fault finding and leave off self-seeking.

May we put away all pretence and meet each other face to face,

without self-pity and without prejudice.

Let us take time for all things: make us grow calm, serene and gentle.

Teach us to put into action our better impulses,

straightforward and unafraid.

Grant that we may realise that it is the little things that create differences; that in the big things of life we are one.

And may we strive to touch and know the great human heart

common to us all, and

Let us not forget to be kind.
